I can't even begin to tell you how this made me feel. Every. Single. Word. It's like you went into my brain and captured the essence of what I feel is going on at this moment in time; everything I've been reading is here, packaged in a way that is truly comprehensive.

As a Catholic, I fear for our faith - I pray that we can consolidate our collective resources and examine how we can get our community back to a place of authenticity and truth.

Thank you for this insightful column.

My word Douglas, your articles and three part series here are out on their own in terms of power and truth.

Only a great mind could straddle the importance of Cohen, Chesterton , Lewis, etc this comprehensively and astutely.

I'm a clever girl myself, but am somewhat awestruck now.

And will doubtless have fun looking through your past essays that may yet be as prophetic and powerful as this one

God Bless and keep you sir.

And your pen! Ps45.2.

To the Honourable Members of Parliament,

We stand before you not as partisans, not as extremists, but as concerned citizens of Canada—men and women who love this country, who work hard, pay taxes, and want nothing more than a future where prosperity, freedom, and truth are not just political buzzwords but realities.

We are here to address the growing crisis in Canada—a crisis not just of economics, but of integrity, governance, and national identity. This is not a single-issue grievance. It is a collection of failures, mismanagement, and deliberate policies that are eroding the very fabric of this nation. We ask that you listen—not with the dismissive smirks and scripted talking points that have become all too common in this chamber, but with genuine concern for the people you were elected to serve.

1. The Middle Class is Being Crushed

For decades, Canada’s prosperity was built on a strong, self-sufficient middle class. Today, that foundation is being deliberately eroded. Hardworking Canadians are taxed to the brink, forced to surrender their earnings to a bloated government that squanders resources while providing little in return. People who work 40+ hours a week, who build businesses, who contribute to their communities, now struggle to afford homes, groceries, and basic necessities—all while government officials and bureaucrats live comfortably on taxpayer-funded salaries and pensions.

Meanwhile, a relentless march toward socialist policies ensures that more and more people rely on government handouts rather than jobs and opportunity. The government does not create wealth—it redistributes it, often from those who produce to those who take. And as Margaret Thatcher once warned, eventually, socialism collapses under the weight of its own promises when it runs out of other people’s money. That day is coming.

2. Reckless Economic Policies and Inflation

Inflation isn’t just a number on a report—it’s a thief. It steals from the pockets of every Canadian, diminishing the value of hard-earned wages while the government shrugs and deflects blame. Your response to skyrocketing costs? More taxes, more regulations, more spending—each measure making the problem worse.

You tax our energy sector to death while subsidizing unreliable “green” schemes that do little but make everything more expensive. You introduce policies that make housing less affordable while pretending to solve the crisis. And you pour billions into pet projects and foreign aid while Canadian families struggle to heat their homes. It’s not that you don’t know what you’re doing—it’s that you don’t care.

3. The Destruction of Canada’s Energy Sector

We are a resource-rich nation, blessed with abundant oil, gas, and natural resources that could make us an energy superpower. Instead, your government has declared war on our own industries, killing jobs, investment, and innovation in the name of an ideological agenda. You sabotage pipelines, tax farmers into oblivion, and regulate small businesses to death—all while importing energy from nations with lower environmental standards and human rights abuses that make a mockery of your so-called progressive values.

You claim to care about climate change, yet your carbon tax does nothing but punish Canadians while making no measurable impact on global emissions. You are not saving the environment—you are crippling our economy and forcing Canadians to pay the price for your political theater.

4. The Media is Bought and Paid For

A free press should challenge the government, not serve as its propaganda arm. Yet, thanks to your taxpayer-funded bailouts, much of Canada’s mainstream media has become a government mouthpiece. The CBC, propped up with billions of dollars in subsidies, spins every scandal, downplays every failure, and amplifies every talking point that benefits those in power.

This is not journalism. This is state-funded manipulation. And in a functioning democracy, the press should hold politicians accountable—not act as their public relations firm.

5. Immigration Without Integration

Canada has long been a welcoming nation, and we take pride in that. But immigration should serve the country—not be used as a political tool to secure votes and expand government dependency. Our system is broken. We allow uncontrolled numbers of newcomers while failing to ensure they integrate into the economy and culture. We see the strain on housing, healthcare, and social services—but rather than address these issues honestly, you silence debate with accusations of racism.

We support fair, responsible immigration. But we oppose open-door policies that prioritize quantity over quality, political gain over national interest.

6. The Erosion of Rights and Freedoms

Canadians used to believe in personal responsibility, free speech, and the right to live without government interference. But in recent years, these fundamental freedoms have been eroded under the guise of “progress.”

Hate speech laws, online censorship bills, pandemic overreach—all tools to silence dissent and consolidate power. You claim to be the defenders of democracy, yet you fear open debate. You claim to stand for diversity, yet you crush opposing voices. A government that dictates what people can say, think, and believe is not a democracy—it is a regime.

The Path Forward

This is not a partisan letter. This is not about one party versus another. This is about Canada—our home, our future, and our responsibility to fight for what is right.

We ask you, our elected officials, to reject ideology in favor of reality. To stop catering to activists and lobbyists and start serving the interests of the people who put you in office. We are tired of excuses. We are tired of seeing our country decline while you pretend that everything is fine.

You may ignore us today. You may dismiss these words as just another complaint from “disgruntled” citizens. But history is watching. And there will come a day when the consequences of these reckless policies become too great to ignore.

On that day, Canadians will remember who stood for truth—and who stood in its way.

God save Canada.

Signed,

Concerned Citizens of Canada
